Week 3 January 30, 2021 Perspectives on Diversity and Culture
My objective of this lesson:
- Ask each person to share:
- My friend definition of culture: I define culture as beliefs, age, race, religion, or a
- persons ethnicity.
- My friend definition of diversity: It means being able to understand each person
- is unique and being able to recognize his/her differences.
- Which aspects of culture and diversity that I have studied in this
- course are included in the answers I received—and what are some
- examples?
- Which aspects have been omitted—and what are some examples
- of such
- omission?
- In what ways has thinking about other people’s definitions of culture and
- diversity influenced my own thinking about these topics?
One friend defined culture as: religion, race, age, ethnicity, education, etc- She later defined diversity as: gender, internationalities, etc.
Hi HicksECE,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the definition of diversity and culture. I believe that early childhood programs should provide knowledge and resources to familiarize teachers with diversity and inclusion. Therefore, teachers must set the program tone through language, classroom settings, and lesson plans to create an inclusive environment for children and their families.

Hello Katrina,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your visuals and the definitions of culture from your friends. Culture can be defined in a number of ways and I believe that as early childhood teachers we must provide opportunities where children can learn about culture and diversity. I think that it is crucial that we include the cultures of all the children and families we work with. Inclusion is very important hen working with young children and families, and it makes them feel included.
