Image
Micro aggression Objectives for Week 4 ·          Describe at least one example of a microaggression which you detected this week or remember from another time. In what context did the microaggression happen? What did you think and feel when you observed the microaggression or when you found yourself as the target of a microaggression? ·          In what ways did your observation experiences this week affect your perception of the effects of discrimination, prejudice, and/or stereotypes on people. According to Dr. Sue (2011), microaggressions refer to an unconscious statement or action expressed towards a marginalized group, such as a racial or social discriminatory message that uses offensive racial comment.  I would like to share an email conversation that sparked my observation this week my daughter shared with me as I observed microaggression.  An overview of the situation.  In two weeks, my daughter will be getting married and the venue employees are assuring the

Week 3 January 30, 2021 Perspectives on Diversity and Culture

Image
My objective of this lesson: Ask each person to share:                        My friend definition of culture: I define culture as beliefs, age, race, religion, or a  persons ethnicity.  My friend definition of diversity: It means being able to understand each person is unique and being able to recognize his/her differences. Which aspects of culture and diversity that I have studied in this  course are included in the answers I received—and what are some  examples? Which aspects have been omitted—and what are some examples  of such  omission? In what ways has thinking about other people’s definitions of culture and  diversity influenced my own thinking about these topics? One friend defined culture as:  religion, race, age, ethnicity, education, etc She later defined diversity as: gender, internationalities, etc.

ECE Professionals:  "How to Increase your                                         Knowledge?"    First of all, an individual must have the desire and want to learn more to be able to grow in ECE.  President Obama’s  early learning initiative  proposal includes strategies to increase access to high-quality preschool and expand the Early Head Start – Child Care Partnership program serving infants and toddlers as indicated by the authors (Forry, Tout, Halle, & Dally, 2013).   As we observe the country  historic expansion of early care and education opportunities for young children, Child Trends offers a list of five ways to improve their quality: www.childtrends.org 1. Focus first on children's safety, health, and happiness. 2. Support the early care and education workforce. 3. National Association for the Education of Young Children Promoting high-quality learning by connecting practice, policy, and research This research was so interesting, I just renewed my membership with NAEYC. Yeah!!!!!!! Join today my colleagues.  I have not actually researched the entire website of NAEYC so I just completed my four hours of research on this website.         https://www.naeyc.org/ I can recall when I was growing up as a child and in high school, I read different magazines, publications, websites.  However, I never observed inside of the books different pictures of what you see posted below.  A diversity of all children in the world because that is what our world is made of today and then.  However, individuals are now displaying diversity on their websites.  I just enjoyed everything about NAEYC so I want to share with you in Week 6 all the information I learned on NAEYC. They have covered all areas in learning about the young child.

My objective for this week is to share things I learned from the Global Children's Initiative:  #1 It was interesting to know how they are working around the world to make a difference:  Together with partner organizations on the ground, the Center promotes innovation in Brazil, Canada, and Mexico, as well as across a broader international platform. Brazil Canada Mexico Across countries ( Saving Brains ) #2. Please review this link:  It is amazing!!!! https://www.albertafamilywellness.org/resources/watch/how-brains-are-built-core-story-of-brain-development I just really enjoyed this short video on the brain. Here is a summary of what was discussed.  It was referred to as "Brain Builders".  Get an introduction of the brain story.  Brain---Built Brain-Positive Interaction in early years  (Serve & Return) This was related to a tennis match.  Toxic Stress can affect the brain and this is bad for brain development.
